Hey guys,

I just recently noticed that a lot of bookmakers are offering odds on whether or not the TI8 prize pool will reach $30 million dollars this year and to my surprise the odds are as high as 1.96 when choosing "No" at Arcanebet.

At the moment the TI8 prize pool is just slightly ahead of the prize pool of the last year's championship, which can be seen here. The total amount of last year was $24.7 million and although there are plenty of days left until this year's tournament is starting, I find it quite unlikely that the prize pool in this will reach $30 million.

This would be a 20% increase from last year and although it's true that TI7 almost had a 20% higher prize pool than TI6, it's harder to keep up with that percentage the higher the amounts get. TI6 to TI7 was a $4 million increase and now we're talking about a $5.3 million increase. It should also be mentioned that between TI5 and TI6 the prize pool only increased by $2.3 million.

Furthermore, the player base in Dota 2 hasn't been increasing but declining and as you may or may not know the prize pool is coming from player purchasing battle passes and levels to this. The peak number of players in 2018 is around 850.000, while 2017 had a million.

I don't know what Valve may have for tricks up their sleeves and I may of course be totally wrong, but I've placed a bet on the prize pool not reaching $30 million and I truly believe this is really easy money, especially since the odds currently are as high as 1.96.

As a Dota 2 enthusiast I can only agree. That looks like a killer bet to place! Thanks a lot for sharing 🙂

I too believe this to be incredibly valuable and just had €300 placed on it which is a lot for me as I usually only bet smaller amounts.

What do you guys think about the prize pool reaching more than €28 million? In addition to a €30 million bet, Betspawn is offering 2.25 in odds for the prize pool NOT reaching €28 million. I actually doubt the prize pool will reach this much, but I'm not sure. It's definitely a riskier bet to place than the €30 million one and the increased risk might not be worth the extra reward it comes with.

I don't think it will reach that much either, but it is indeed a riskier bet.

For the €30 million bet the odds are down to 1.86 now at Arcanebet and I'm pretty sure they will continue to go down as it becomes more obvious that the prize pool won't reach this much. For good value now is the time to bet.

I don't know if I should place a bet with betspawn as well. I really don't have the budget for it, but I keep checking the prize pool tracker and for every day it's looking more and more promising that the prize pool won't even reach 28 million. It really sucks if I place the bet and it end up doing so though.

There's always risk involved in betting so if you can't afford losing don't do it. Looking at that tracker it does however seem like a safe bet. 32 days in the prize pool has the last 3 years been way higher than the one offered the previous year, but now it's just barley ahead and it might even fall behind.
