Will eSports ever make it as an olympic event? Will Premier League and football one day be nothing but a memory? We don’t know what the future will bring, but we do know that the world of eSport and eSports betting is rapidly growing.
UK premiership tournaments soon to fill stadiums
To some of us this may seem unreal and too good to be true, but recently James Dean who is the founder of ESL UK mentioned that UK premiership tournaments could be hosted in 5,000 or even 10,000-seater stadiums within the next five years. James himself said that this might sound mad and that the players in the UK eSport teams would probably call him nuts, but looking at the last four seasons the past two years, one can see a big difference. James says:
“We used to have players turning up without shirts and we still do, but there are professional budding organizations that are turning into legitimate businesses.”
James have previously also mentioned that he believes that there will be a UK team big enough to compete against the best eSport teams in the world by the end of 2017.
ESL UK Premiership is the premier eSports competition for Ireland and UK. Currently they have leagues held in League of Legends, CS:GO, Hearthstone and Overwatch, but will according to James expand to more games in 2017. ESL stands for Electronic Sports League and organizes tournaments worldwide. ESL One refers to global tournaments whereas ESL UK are region specific ones. When it comes to ESL One and global tournaments, these are already filling stadiums that take 20,000 people.
eSports betting to explode in the UK
eSports betting is a quickly growing phenomenon all around the world and with the ESL UK growing, UK is a ticking time bomb about to explode. A lot of eSport bookies are currently applying for a UK license to prepare for when the boom hits, because it’s not a matter of if it will hit, but when it will hit. Dafabet is a perfect example of an eSports bookie who has been very successful in Asia, but is now changing their focus to the UK market to tackle already well-established UK eSport bookies like Bet365.
As for games, League of Legends, Dota 2 and CS:GO are the three games currently dominating the world’s eSports betting. There are of course other games to bet on as well, but these three are those that bookies currently offer the most matches and markets to bet on. As the world of eSport is constantly changing, growing bigger and bigger, it’s hard to tell which games will dominate the UK market when the boom hits. However, based on today it would probably be CS:GO. This is based on the leagues currently offered in the ESL UK where CS:GO is one of them, the availability of bets from bookies where CS:GO is in the top three and the great success that team-dignitas have had in CS:GO tournaments. As you may already know, Team-dignitas is a UK company that own several professional eSport teams for a wide range of games.
