IEM Shanghai 2018 is entering the playoff stage

IEM Shanghai 2018

Will the Chinese fans root TyLoo to victory at IEM Shanghai?

TyLoo, Virtus.pro, NRG and Gambit are all teams that have advanced to the semi-finals at IEM Shanghai 2018. The $250 thousand tournament started on the 1st of August and will culminate on the 6th when one of these four teams will take home the $125 thousand allotted for the winner of the event.

Teams such as Grayhound, HellRaisers and BOOT-d[S] have already been eliminated and they have also been joined by one of the two home favorites, 5POWER. HellRaisers’ elimination has been a little bit surprising, but other than them, it was pretty much expected that the other three teams would be out in the group stages as they are far inferior to any one of TyLoo, Virtus.pro, NRG or Gambit.

In the semi-finals, TyLoo will face Virtus.pro while NRG will play against Gambit. All of these four teams are quite evenly matched and it’s expected that the difference between them will be ever so slight. However, with that being said, TyLoo seem to have a little higher chance of making it to the finals and triumphing in the event.

The team of TyLoo have had a year of mixed success, but their two 3rd place finishes at the CS:GO Asia Championships and at IEM Sydney seem to suggest that when they are pitted against the very best in competitive CS:GO they can produce a decent result. On top of that they are playing on home soil and as the only remaining Chinese team in the tournament they are bound to get all the possible support from the roaring fans in Shanghai.

TyLoo’s opponents in the semi-final, Virtus.pro, will also try to stake their claim for a spot in the final. They have played relatively well this year with their biggest success coming at the CS:GO Asia Championships where they finished second after losing in the final to the much superior Ukrainian side, Natus Vincere. The performance in this tournament did however show that Virtus.pro can play with the very best and even beat them as they managed to leave teams such as EnVyUs, NiP and no other than TyLoo, which they’re now facing, behind them.

In the other semi-final match, the highly unpredictable team of Gambit will face off against NRG. The team from Kazakhstan (Gambit) has been a real nightmare for betting enthusiasts this year as they’ve often had a tendency to produce quite unexpected results. They will however be hoping that most of the surprises that they are going to stage in Shanghai will be positive ones as NRG have shown much more consistency than them recently.

Currently the North American team of NRG is on a five match winning streak and their last defeat came almost a month ago. This means that whoever is playing against daps, FugLy, Brehze, nahtE and CeRq will have their hands full as they are one compact unit.

All in all, the Shanghai semi-finals and the grand finale are definitely going to be matches filled with action that CS:GO fans will enjoy, especially so as they are one of the last high profile games of a season which has been full of excitement.
