ESL is about to launch a new tournament for Brazil – Belo Horizonte

Brazil is one of the hottest places on the planet and we’re not talking about weather, but competitive CS:GO gaming. This huge country is home to some of the best CS:GO teams in the world and have given birth to several outstanding players. You may already be familiar with names such as FalleN, fer, coldzera, TACO, boltz and felps which have all been putting Brazil on the eSports gaming map for quite some time now.

It’s therefore to little surprise that many Brazilian fans were ecstatic over the recent announcement that ESL made. They will be hosting a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament in Belo Horizonte. It has been quite some time since ESL last organized a tournament in Brazil and this is most definitely welcoming news for anyone involved in CS:GO, not just near and around Belo Horizonte, but for the whole territory of South America.

The newly announced tournament is the first to be played in Brazil after a sabbatical of two years when the 2016 ESL Pro League Season Four Finals were played in Sao Paulo. On that occasion, Cloud9 caused a major surprise by defeating the home team SK Gaming in the final match of the event. That solitary tournament win was enough to throw the home crowd into despair.

However, now that it has come to everyone’s attention that there will be another tournament to be played on Brazilian soil, hopes have once again been raised high among Brazilian eSport enthusiasts who are hoping to replace that awful loss with one of their home teams standing victorious.

The tournament will be held from 15th to the 17th of June. There will be a total prize pool of 200,000.00 dollars to be shared amongst the competing teams, which is undoubtedly an amount worth fighting for. These CS:GO teams will be eight to the numbers and consist of some of the best ones in the world. Four of them will be lucky enough to receive a direct invite, while the other four will have to make their way to the tournament by triumphing over tough opposition in qualifier matches taking place.

Apart from a new ESL event always being big news, interesting fact about this tournament is that it’s a part of the so called Intel Grand Slam. This is a group of ESL and DreamHack events where the first team to win 4 out of 10 tournaments will be declared as winners of the Grand Slam, resulting in a profit boost of 1,000,000.00 dollars. Expectedly, one of the best teams in the world, the Brazilian SK Gaming currently leads the race with two wins.
