The tournament CS:GO fans have been waiting for is here
The biggest CS:GO event of the summer is about to begin as the ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier 2018 is taking place in Atlanta, Georgia between the 21st and 29th of July. The world’s top 8 CS:GO teams will be featured in the tournament and battle it out for a share of a massive $1 million prize pool. The stakes are incredibly high and fans can expect a spectacular event filled with action packed matches and many memorable moments.
Group A is a real group of death as three of the five best CS:GO sides in the world will fight it out for the top two spots that will take them to the playoffs. These teams are no other than Astralis, Team Liquid and MIBR, which will be joined by the skilled North Americans in Cloud9.
The group promises to be a thrilling one where anything can happen, because even though Astralis are the stand-out favorites to top the group, teams such as MIBR clearly have the potential to mount a serious challenge. Cloud9 and Team Liquid will also look to improve on their performance at the ESL Cologne where they were out of the running as early as the group stages and couldn’t reach the quarter-finals.
Group B features the ESL Cologne winner Natus Vincere and they are joined by the European powerhouses FaZe Clan, mousesports and fnatic. For many fans and CS:GO enthusiasts this group will be much more interesting to follow as it will have a distinct European flavor and while NaVi will certainly try to establish themselves as one of the two teams to progress from the group, nothing can be taken for granted when talented teams such as FaZe Clan, mousesports and fnatic are in the equation.
The opening day of the tournament will feature matches from Group A in which Astralis will first play against Cloud9. This battle is then followed by Team Liquid facing off against the Brazilian side MIBR. On the next day, Group B matches will take place and in these NaVi will try to keep their good form going against the tough Swedish players in fnatic, while FaZe Clan will try to outwit mousesports in what surely is a must-win match for both teams.
The group stage will be played in the standard GSL – 4 team double-elimination bracket format and this will run until the 25th of July. The four teams that progress to the playoff stage will then get a two-day break and on July 28th – 29th the semi-finals and the grand final will take place.
During the event many fans will surely be intrigued as to how several team and player related storylines will play out. There has for instance already been joy expressed at the prospect of watching Tarik ‘tarik’ Celik and Jacky ‘Stewie2K’ Yip of MIBR play against their former teammates in Cloud9.
Another interesting storyline which has caught the attention of fans is the return to FaZe Clan of Olof ‘olofmiester’ Kajbjer Gustafsson after some time away from the team. The 26-year old will return after almost a four-month sabbatical that he took for personal reasons.
All ELEAGUE CS:GO Premiere matches will be broadcasted on the organization’s Twitch channel, Bleacher Report Live and the official website for the organization.
